概要 This chapter deals with the ethical issues relevant to body modification with cyborg technologies such as wearables and implantables and other aspects of transhumanism, taking Japanese culture into consideration. We are now at the threshold of the potential widespread use of these cyborg technologies. This means that we are at a good point to proactively address the ethical and social issues that the development and usage of these technologies could cause. To clarify such issues, interviews with experts in various fields were conducted, and the results of these interviews are analysed, taking transhumanist ideals and Japanese culture regarding body modification (including piercing, tattooing and organ transplants) into account. As a result, 44 research agenda points were elicited, which fall into eight categories. In addition, British and Spanish perspectives on body modification are discussed to relativise and clarify the Japanese sociocultural circumstances surrounding it.
