概要 The Pugachev rebellion had a “composite” character. Various categories of people from different societies participated, and the rebellion unfolded while cooperating with, opposing each other, or alienating from each other, so to speak, in an autonomous manner. These relationships defined the movement of the rebellion.
The eighteenth century in Russia is both the “Century of War” and the “Century of Rebellion.” There were various events that colored this era. Among them, the Pugachev Rebellion was an incident in which the problems of early modern Russia erupted all at once, and it was an event that best described the characteristics of Russian history. However, much remains unclear as to what the entire rebellion was aimed at. In the first place, the “vol’nost’” was described in many proclamations and manifestos issued by Pugachev.
