Prof. Yoichi Hayashi received the Dr. Eng. degree in systems engineering from Tokyo University of Science, Tokyo. Since 1996, he has been a full Professor at Computer Science Department, Meiji University, Tokyo. He was a visiting professor at University of Alabama at Birmingham and University of Canterbury (New Zealand). He was a visiting professor at University of Alabama at Birmingham and University of Canterbury (New Zealand). His current research interests include explainable AI (XAI), white box AI (“white boxing” AI), generative AI, explaining Deep-Learning models, white box machine learning, rule extraction, and explaining medical imaging. Authored 217 papers in the field of Computer Science, with 104 papers published in peer-reviewed journals and 113 papers presented at well-known international conferences. H-index score and number of citations in Scopus are 29 and 3521, respectively. Similarly, his H-index score and number of citations on Google Scholar are 42 and 7725, respectively. He has been awarded a paper on the equivalence of Neural Nets and Fuzzy Rule Sets selected as 1 of the 7 best papers from the Fuzzy Sets and Systems Vol. 100 memorial issue: J.J. Buckley, Y. Hayashi, E. Czogala, "On the Equivalence of Neural Nets and Fuzzy Expert Systems,” Fuzzy Sets and Systems, Vol. 100, Sup., pp. 145–150 (1999). He has been honored for being listed among World’s Top 2% Scientists in Artificial Intelligence for consecutive 2021 and 2022 by the Stanford University. Served as the Action Editor for Neural Networks, an Associate Editor for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine through many years. Currently, he serves as a reviewer for various grants submitted to the European Research Council (ERC) and Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
