概要 This study explores how molecular crowding on cell membranes affects biochemical signal transduction. Using a 2D model of receptors, signaling proteins, and target proteins, it shows that as target protein binding increases, signal flow (activation frequency) can follow three patterns: steadily increasing, bell-shaped, or S-shaped. Crowding causes signaling proteins to cluster around receptors, with target proteins surrounding these clusters during high signal flow. Stochastic analysis explains how excluded volume influences these behaviors, highlighting the key role of molecular crowding in membrane reactions.
