Details | This paper examines the historical conditions of building the Austrian nation after 1945 by focusing on welfare policies for "victims of fascism". These policies played an influential role in redefining Austrian national borders, because the people concerned typically represented the self-image of the Austrian nation, which, after the Second World War, defined itself as the "first victim" of National Socialism. However, a large majority of people in Austria attached little importance to the integration of those persecuted by National Socialist regime for race, religion, or nationality. |
