Details This research aimed to elucidate the present features and future issues related to university counseling in South Korea and to suggest developments for university counseling in Japan through a comparison of the existing counseling services in the two countries. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with counselors from two university counseling centers in South Korea. The results indicate that these two university counseling centers were better developed in counseling systems and better organized in offering counseling services and preventing suicides than those in Japan. Moreover, the results suggest that South Korean students have a tendency to talk about issues of insecurity to counselors more often. Finally, in this paper, these results are discussed from the perspective of comparing societal and university counseling features in Japan and South Korea.
