Details As diversity is rapidly increasing in many urban cities worldwide due to immigration and economic structural changes, planners and policymakers face challenges in ensuring they remain inclusive and thriving. This article examines transforming conditions in such diverse neighborhoods through a case study from Greektown, Baltimore City, Maryland, in the United States. The field research conducted in Greektown revealed the diversities within the conventionally categorized groups based on race and socioeconomic status. Multiple generations within immigrant groups, racial and sexual minorities in young gentrifiers, and various economic positions in all groups present differing views and attitudes concerning the diverse conditions in the neighborhood. At the same time, each group maintains tight relationships based on culture, lifestyles, and political/social ideologies. The diversities within a group and between groups need to be noted in planning diverse and inclusive neighborhoods.
