Details Significant progress has been achieved in the performance and commercialization of color thin film inorganic electroluminescent (EL) displays due to the advance of emitting materials and related technology. In particular BaAl2S4:Eu phosphor has cleared the highest obstacle for inorganic EL displays since it exhibits the high-luminance blue EL that had long been unobtainable. Many efficient phosphors, in the group of ternary and multinary sulfide compounds related to BaAl2S4:Eu have also been developed. In this paper, the principle of the material engineering behind these kinds of phosphors, the thin film process and EL performance are introduced
