概要	This study reports on a Japanese language class that used content-based instruction to develop students' Japanese language skills through examining the topic of the Great East Japan Earthquake. The class also aimed to raise the students' awareness of the issues surrounding the earthquake, critical thinking skills, and their understanding of others. Students were expected to broaden their perspectives by learning about the tragedy and what is currently happening in the affected area in Japanese. The results of this study are significant to researchers and educators interested in content-based learning as well as "learning through Japanese," in contrast to "learning Japanese."
