Details Many manufacturers are struggling to produce products timely in response to demand fluctuations without lowering production efficiency, and the problem becomes more difficult for seasonal product manufacturers. The authors proposed "A Cusp Catastrophe Model on Product Characteristics", which focuses on "seasonal dependency" and "long-term storage possibility". This paper proposes a new model which expands the surface of the cusp catastrophe to that of the butterfly catastrophe by incorporating three new factors, production capacity flexibility, inventory management capability and product price. This suggests the direction of Continuous Improvement("Kaizen") from the viewpoint of production and inventory management.
