概要 One method to suppress the vibration of structures due to a strong wind or an earthquake is to use a dynamic vibration absorber. The authors have developed a new type of dynamic vibration absorber for some small scale structures. The absorber is composed of a mass, semicircular arc beams, some free bears, some rare-earth magnets and a base board. The mass is able to move around any horizontal directions on the base board. First, the frequency and earthquake responses of a 3-story building installed the absorber were examined numerically. The analytical parameters were mass ratio and frequency ratio of the building to the absorber, and damping ratio of the absorber. Next, the trial absorber was made and attached to the third story of a 3-story building model, and the frequency and earthquake responses of the building model were measured using a shaking table. The experimental results were compared with the calculated results, and the effects of vibration suppression of the absorber were confirmed.
