Details | In ASEAN, region-wide automobile supply chain has been developed because tariffs on automobile and auto-parts were eliminated in the process of trade liberalization, while each country had a small automobile cluster protected by the tariffs in the past. In this paper we examine the factors to influence the automobile supply chain including finished cars, labor-intensive auto-parts and high value auto-parts. It is concluded that the factors consist of not only tariffs but also cross-border transport infrastructure, cross-border transport agreement and customs procedures to affect the logistics costs. |
