概要	The paper puts into historical perspective the way modernization of Japanese theatre after 1867 has called into question the authenticity of its traditions. Some repercussions in the 21st centurty are then explored by discussing two Japanese Shakespeare productions of Hamlet (2007 and 2010) , both directed by Yoshihiro Kurita.
