Details The paper is a brief historical account of theatre commentaries in Japan starting from the birth of hyobanki reviews of kabuki in the 17th century and its modernization in the late 19th century, focusing on Koson Aeba and Takeji Miki, the two representative and innovative theatre critics of the Meiji period.
